The Indoctrination Begins

My DH is a high school band director, which means that although it is only June, we are in full swing marching band season. It will end the second week in November. Between now then we will live, eat, breathe, sleep marching band. It really is a lot of fun and although by the end of October I get tired of spending every weekend at football games and competitions, it is nice that we can basically "go to work" with him!

Ella loves every minute of it -- the drums, the music, the flags, THE DRUM MAJOR! She is a little conductor on the field waving her arms around. Yesterday while Mitch cooked dinner he put in a Drum Corps International DVD (basically a high end, all summer long, marching band competition for youth up to age 21). Now, I like DCI, but I do not LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it the way he does (he marched DCI in the 90s). I have no idea how that DVD even got in the house because I try my best to make sure they stay up in the band room (otherwise DCI would be playing all day, all summer long)!

Ella stood watching for about 5 minutes and then went to find her flag. We have not touched the flag in a good two months. But she put the two together and stood in front of the TV swinging her flag around! It was pretty cute, I will admit. And yes, she's topless -- she'd just come in from the pool and we only got as far as the shorts.

Glad you covered that. I was going to question what kind of marching band she intended to participate in. And also to say that her finance's mother did not approve of this hobby. :)

So does this mean Mitch IS teaching band next year? Wish they would make up their minds...
