Passover

Passover is quickly approaching as I was reminded on a blog I read this morning. My husband was raised Jewish and I have had a life long fascination with all things Jewish (including him!!). My first year out of college (and a good 4 years before we even met) I hosted my first Seder for my three roommates. I had no idea what I was doing and used a haggadah I found in the grocery store that was distributed by Folgers!

Thankfully, I found a fantastic book just after we got married. I have used the Sabbath, Passover, and Hanukkah chapters of the book and love it. I recommend it even if you are not Jewish as a way to understand the Old Testament/Biblical feasts.

It is so odd to have Easter and Passover so spread out this year. We usually host or lead a Seder, but with the two holidays being a month apart, I had kind of pushed the Seder aside. A larger group of people is nice for the Seder -- definitely more than than three of us! I think I have been inspired to put something together, even on the smaller side. We could definitely do a Seder at our Monday night Small Group!

Regardless, I do plan to stock up on Matzah Ball Soup mix as it is always the lowest price of the year during Passover. Mitch insists on macaroons from the can and those will go on clearance the day after Passover is finished.

Briercrest Seminary did a "Christian seder" last year. What do you think of those? It's basically a traditional seder with some Christian elements as well.

I love them, Erin! I believe the haggadah (the Seder "script") in the Zimmerman book is Christian. Except for my Folgers haggadah foray, that is the one we use. A traditional authentic Jewish Seder can take hours! The Zimmerman one cuts it down and adds a Christian perspective.
